They'll Always Have Flushing

I said I wouldn't say anymore about the Willie-Omar drama, but that doesn't mean I can't link to someone else saying something. After recounting Willie's comment that he asked Omar to fire him before he got on the plane to Anaheim, Jason at IIATMS says:
How on Earth could Minaya let Willie get on the plane after Willie said that to him? The only rational answer is that the Wilpon's pushed Minaya to do it... but even still, why did Minaya let Willie get on the plane? Why?

My guess is that after Willie told Omar to fire him before getting on the plane, Omar said that, inside of them, they both knew that Willie belonged with the Mets. That he's part of their work, the thing that keeps them going. That if that plane leaves the ground and he's not with them, he'll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of his life.

Well, in that case, making him get on that plane was the end of a beautiful friendship...

"We haven't decided whether Tom Nieto hanged himself or was shot trying to escape."
