And That, um . . .WTF?

Phillies 2, Rays 2: SUSPENDED: Bud Selig's quote: "I can't tell you tonight when we'll resume. We'll stay here if we have to celebrate Thanksgiving here." I can only assume he said that after suggesting that the game be moved to Milwaukee, only to be shouted down. The forecast today calls for showers and wind and cold and the same kind of crap that moved through Ohio yesterday, so good luck everyone, but even if the game does happen, it will be fairly miserable.

This is also interesting: "If Pena had not tied it, Selig said he would not have let the Phillies win with a game that was called after six innings.'It's not a way to end a World Series,' he said. 'I would not have allowed a World Series to end this way.'" I know Selig is all gung ho to not be embarrassed again, but aren't there rules about that? I mean, if an ump calls a game due to rain after five and a half innings with a team up, can Selig just jump out of his box and overrule him? I've seen Vince McMahon do that kind of thing before in WWE, but I didn't know Bud could.

Whatever happens, this has not been a particularly good World Series, and the part of the game that was played last night was a disgrace . The ending, however, will probably end up being a memorable one.

I think game one has been best game yet. But overall, this series has not been that dramatic. I could see Phillies beef as the game could have been called earlier. I am glad the series won't end by a rainout.

As the game progressed, I kept thinking that Bud was just waiting for the Rays to tie it so he could suspend the game in a tie rather than have the World Series end with a shortened game. That last inning or so was excruciating; they're really lucky no one got hurt.

It was almost worth it, though, to watch B. J. Upton steal on what was essentially a muddy slip-n-slide.

Though I'm clearly biased (Phillies fan), it's intensely irritating that they played the game at all, as the forecasts were absolutely clear as to what the weather was going to be like (and it was already raining).

If the wasted Hamels start ends up partially costing the Phillies the Series (though losing the next 2.34 games would yield additional, worthier culprits), I don't know if I'll ever be able to watch House again. . .I have little doubt that pressure by Fox to keep a game away from Tuesday night led to the original decision to play.

/end paranoid Philly fan rant.

Had Selig called the game after 5 innings and told everyone that when the weather improves (Tues, Weds, whenever) that the game would resume I would have no problem with it whatsoever. Much like hockey (no 4 on 4 OT or shoot out - 20 minutes periods until a goal is scored) I think playing playoff games need to be decided on the field in regulation play and if that mean the games takes days to complete so be it.

However given the weather conditions at the start of the sixth I am somewhat baffled at why the game continued - just suspend it and let folks know that it will be completed when weather permits. This may have led to some complaints but you stand on solid ground saying that WS games must a minimum of 9 innings. Unfortunately suspending the game in the middle of the sixth you leaves the decision open to lots of conspiracy talk and if there is one thing that all these forms of modern media (blogs, internet chats, 24 hour spiorts talk) are great at is starting and spreading conspiracies. So once again - Bud tries to do the 'right thing' and manages to find a way to call his decisions into questions.

how CONVENIENT for BigJackass to score the tying run, for this to be suspended. I don't care what Bud said after the game, he was PRAYING he didn't have to make an Executive Decision on extending the game if the Phillies were leading after the half inning and ending the World Series game.

How enslaved is MLB to those Fascists at Fox, as that they could not even move the game up to 6pm and avoid this mess. This is EXACTLY what they wanted -- not only the drama of extending the Series, but the drama in the WAY the Series is extended.

I'm freaking FUMING right now. Con Law class be damned. I HATE Anti-Trust Exemption, under-right-wing thumb MLB and FOX right now. H-A-T-E.

anonymous, don't let rage consume you. That's what the FOX Empire wants you to do. We can defeat the "true" Evil Empire.

OK, now that I've sort of calmed down, at least they restart tied up -- if Bud **REALLY** was not going to allow the game to end after 5 1/2 if the Phillies had the lead, then we might as well start from scratch . . . .

If you're angry at Fox (for o-so-many reasons), just call one of the main WS sponsors and tell them you were going to buy one of their cars (name the model), but because of the late starts, you'll be purchasing a (specific) vehicle built by a competitor.

Advertisers HATE this.
Hate it like poison.

It takes amazingly few calls like this to get results.

What if the game resumes, and goes extra innings, and the bad weather returns?

Has a suspended game ever been re-suspended?
