Andy Pettitte Probably Coming Back

That's what the Post says, anyway. For those keeping score:

If Pettitte were to come back, the Yankees rotation would have Chien-Ming Wang, Pettitte and perhaps Joba Chamberlain.

CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Derek Lowe are the top free agents available.
I love how Hughes and Kennedy don't even exist anymore. Hey Brian Cashman: The Braves will trade you Jeff Francoeur straight up for one of em, and then you've got yourself a replacement for Bobby Abreu.

maybe they are just assuming Hughes & Kennedy will be pitching in Petco?

According to a story I just saw, Peavy has only OK'd Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and St. Louis as trade destinations.

But if you want Cashman to trade Kennedy or Hughes for Kahlil Greene, I'm sure Kevin Towers would listen . . .;-)

I think the idea is that next season, Hughes and Kennedy actually have to prove that they're ready to pitch in the big leagues. Neither of them won a single game last year. So next season, the Yankees will not rely on them, but if one or both of them step up, great. As the old adage goes, you can never have too much pitching.

Those are the NL teams he would waive his NTC for. He also had 3 AL teams he'd do it for, yet to be named, though.

Ah. I missed that.

Everybody calm down about Hughes. He'll still be 22 when the 09 season starts. Who the hell gives up on that kind of talent at that age?

Well, with the Yankees' payroll they'd better go into next year with at least 7 passable starting pitchers, especially considering that at least six of the names being kicked around (Pettitte, Mussina, Burnett, Chamberlain, Hughes, Kennedy) are candidates to spend significant time on the DL or in AAA.
