The Other Meetings

The GM meetings in the previous post are not to be confused with the Winter Meetings. Those happen in December, and this year they're in Sin City:
The winter meetings will be held Dec. 8-11 in Las Vegas, with the Majors holding their functions at the Bellagio and the Minors running their meetings at the Hilton.

The Baseball Trade Show will take place at the Convention Center. About 4,000 personnel will attend and the meetings will net Las Vegas around $6 million in non-gaming revenue.

In other news, I am available to blog the Winter Meetings for any media outlet interested in paying my airfare, room, and board at the Bellagio. If rooms are already booked, I'll consider staying at the Wynn, but you have to pay my cab fare for all of the back-and-forth.

Vegas huh? With a little luck, GMs will be able to double their team's payroll! Expect to see the Pirates GM at the slots machine 18 hours a day, while the Marlins GM will mostly be in the shops just outside the casinos pawning all his arb-eligible players. And Billy Beane will surprise everyone by signing Sabathia after running the show at the high-stakes poker table.
